Soooooo, I back tracked even farther and went to Grinding Rock. By the time we got there the visitor center was closed but the trails were still open to walk on and it was neat to look around and imagine the way it was hundreds of years ago.
The women of the Chaw'se Tribe would gather acorns and then sit and grind them into
flour to make their food. There were so many spots it was "easy to see" them all sitting around and talking while the little ones ran around in the fields and forest.
We saw a wild turkey family as we walked around
on the trail so we knew the men would of been off hunting. The tribe
still uses the area even today, in the Round House, we could still smell the sent of smoke.
One highlight for Trevor was the historical landmark (#136)
we stopped at along the way...
Mark Twain's cabin.
Well, replica cabin but original chimney and fireplace,...he wrote
"Jumping Frog of Calaveras" here.
