The Living Desert

During Spring Break the kids and I went out to Palm Desert to a zoo

named The Living Desert.

What a lovely place to go... the combination of gardens and animals were just wonderful

to wander through. The day got a little warm...it is the desert after

all but once we

found a tree or covered area and had some water it felt great!!

There are all kinds of desert animals to see...

a lot were sleeping but a few were out and we enjoyed watching them.

Tyler did a report a few months ago about native American Tribes in our area...he did the Cahuilla Tribe. Had I known The Living Desert had a whole garden area devoted to the Cahuilla Tribe we would have gone months ago. They had grinding stones and trees and plants that would be used for food so we could see how it would of been hundreds of years ago. The house was a lot cooler inside then we thought it would be and we decided the day care lambs would like one in our yard. :) We saw quail and a road runner running around in the underbrush and humming birds all over the place...they have a great big butterfly and humming bird garden. I have discovered that Tyler is a "see it" kind of learner...once he can see and feel history, what he read or reported about clicks for him. It was fun to watch him explore this area and hear his little facts he remembered.

God has created some amazing animals, flowers and colors...

This Mexican Wolf was one of the few animals moving around in the heat of the day. This just meant we stood there and watched him (or her:) for a long time. I'm not sure if he was nervous about something or was just showing off but he kept running back and forth, up and down the "hills". He even ran through the puddle that is in the enclosure and took a swim to cool off.

We sat and watched a reptile keeper chat. The boys liked

the Monitor Lizard...Elaine and

I viewed from afar...I got only as close as the zoom would take me:) In the

end both boys said this was their favorite part of the day. Elaines favorite part was

the very fun play ground...

Tyler just had fun playing on everything.

I have so many more pictures but I think you just might have to go yourself and see for what a fun place The Living Desert is....

Psalm 139

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. This Psalm of David has blessed me so much during my life...good times and heartbreaking times...can you just picture God holding us in His great big hands like a child holds a treasure for safe keeping? Or Him just sitting there thinking about us and waiting for us to talk to Him? He has time for each of us...why is it so hard to give Him our time? The one who created us? And knows what we are going to say before we say the words... Oh Lord please let them be the correct words!! Thank you my LORD for loving me and thinking of me even though I am as filthy rags. Thank you... for making me clean as pure snow through Jesus.
